About Melissa Rach

Melissa Rach is the founder of Hexagon Communications and co-author of the book Content Strategy for the Web (second edition), which has been translated into 10+ languages.

A pioneer in her field, Melissa began her career as a journalist and worked on her first interactive content project in 1993. Since then, she has become a respected authority on how organizations incorporate online content into their business and marketing plans. Melissa was the Vice President of Content Strategy at Brain Traffic, the groundbreaking agency at the forefront of the content strategy movement.

Hailed as a leader in creating content strategy methodologies, Melissa has developed some of the discipline's essential tools and processes, including the content strategy quad—widely used by content strategists everywhere to explain their craft. Her methodologies have been taught at universities and recognized in books and blogs throughout her career. She has spoken at conferences such as UX Week, Confab, CS Forum, the Digital Content Summit, Now What!?, and the I2Summit. In addition, she has spoken at corporate conferences for organizations such as Microsoft, The Mayo Clinic, Medicare, UnitedHealth Group, and Target.

After Brain Traffic, Melissa founded Hexagon Communications, a management consultancy focused on helping organizations solve complex problems in marketing, content, internal/external communications, information architecture, and thought leadership.

Melissa holds degrees in journalism and archaeology from the University of Wisconsin—and, yes, she does use both of them as a communications professional. She lives with her family in Minneapolis, MN, and names her pets after punctuation marks.
